The Domain of Kerbastic
More often named « domain », the castle of Kerbastic set in Guidel, in Brittany, is an authentic place with a beautiful history.
With its French Directory architecture, the Polignac’s “land of the heart” entered the family patrimony towards 1840. Bordered by a river, a few steps away from the ocean, it softly and nobly hides amid greenery and flowers. It is said to be a « spontaneously loved » house. Every generation has mentioned about its secret charm, its magnolia, rhododendron, jasmine and wisteria scents, away from the winds of the sea. With its striking exteriors an its interiors filled with soul, whether it be in the dining room, the sitting room or the rooms, the residence has inspired many writer and painter friends.
Kerbastic reached its high fame with Count Jean de Polignac and his wife, Marie-Blanche. Every holiday, they would welcome many artists including Francis Poulenc, Jacques Février, Adrien Drian, Colette, Jean Hugo, Vuillard, Max Jacob, Nadia Boulanger… After belonging to Prince Louis de Polignac, the domain is now owned by the Polignac-Kerjean Foundation and is chaired by his niece, Princess Constance de Polignac.
The power of this princely residence of charm and character remains intact. However, today, it fulfils a much wider purpose.
Besides being a place witnessing the force of life and creativity and perpetuating its artistic patronage tradition, it is now opened to hosts. It is certain that there is nothing more attractive for a hotel than to be "hidden" in an old family house and nothing more moving for a visitor to feel he is entering someone’s home. The charm is completed by many refinements that lie amid the scents of time – a savoury cuisine, writer’s rooms and princely suites that are here to welcome you.
